Poem – Baby Boy ๐Ÿฎ

A sad poem I wrote about a mothers love for her baby boy who was born into the dairy industry.๐Ÿ’™

Baby Boy

My heart is filled with happiness,
Love, delight and joy,
As I look down in awe
At my newborn baby boy.
Your face is just so beautiful,
With eyes so big and bold.
Your innocence melts my heart,
For you’re only a few hours old.
I don’t want this moment to end,
I could just stare at you all day.
But I know that sometime soon
He will come to take you away.
I’ll hide you as best as I can,my love,
Be silent and lie down low.
I pray he doesn’t find you here,
I really don’t want you to go.
I wish I knew why he has to take you.
Why won’t he tell me where you are going?
Is it because I am a bad mother?
Oh how I hate the not knowing.
I can only hope it’s somewhere safe,
Where you can run around all day.
Maybe you will meet your brothers there
And together you all can play.
When he finally stole you from me,
Iโ€™ll never forget your cries.
The breaking of my heart,
As the tears fell from your eyes.
I don’t know what he meant
When he repeated the word veal
But it must be something important,
Not something trivial like a meal.
For me, I will live on in sadness,
Happy only when in my dreams.
Longing to be with my babies,
Instead of hooked up to a machine.
After years of going through this,
I have slowly become so weak.
”She’s dried up…she’s a downer,”
So I heard him speak.
My legs have given up on me,
Blood has filled my udders.
So he put me in a truck,
Full of lots of grieving mothers.
I wonder if I am being taken,
To live happily and free.
With you and all your brothers,
What a great gift that would be.
The journey lasted for hours,
Some of us didnโ€™t make it.
But luckily I’m still living,
Excited to see where I’ve been taken.
It’s time to get off the truck,
And suddenly I realise,
That the place that we have come
Is far from paradise.
We are terrified to move,
We can sense what lies ahead.
There is death all around us,
My excitement turns to dread.
I hope they didnโ€™t take you here my love..
It would break my heart to think,
That you went through all this suffering,
Just for something to put in a drink.
I can see a mother before me,
She is about to be shot in the head.
Why is this happening to us?
We want to live, not be dead.
The last thing I see is a man,
His eyes are wide and scary.
He took your life and now he’ll take mine;
We are the true cost of dairy.
