This is just a short poem that I wrote really randomly at 5 AM one morning. I’ve never written a poem before but I just woke up with the words in my head! It’s just a quick insight to the life of mother pigs across the world in the farming industry. I hope you enjoy it. ❤
A Pig’s Wish
I wish for just one moment you could live as me,
So you could feel my pain and sadness, my longing to be free.
You would feel the breaking of my heart as I hear my babies cry,
And the hopelessness in my body as I watch them slowly die.
You would see the darkness all around me – I’ve never seen the light of day.
There’s no room for me to move, so on the filthy, wet ground I lay.
You would feel the sorrow in the atmosphere and the smell of misery in the air.
My spirit has become so broken, consumed by despair.
You would see that my days are filled with torture – I live in a constant state of fear.
I wonder what I did to deserve this and I hope that death is near…
I’m not telling you this to hurt you, I would never want to cause you harm.
I just want you to understand how I feel living on this farm.
So please don’t ever forget me and the suffering I feel,
I hope that my life can impact the choice of your next meal.
